About the winter season of 1953, the then pastor of Sanford (Florida) Assembly of God church, Rev. C. W. Marshall, who came to us there from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, said he was tired of the old traditional "A Happy Birthday To You," song and opened a contest to see if a new one could be created by congregation members. Only two (2) entries were ever made, one by my mother, the late Zona Deardorff Smith, and me. Hers was to the slightly modified tune of "Heavenly Sunlight" but because I was competing with her, I deliberately did not learn the words. When she was killed on July 19, 1955, I regretted not having copied and memorized it, but by then it was too late. This song is now past copyright and free for anyone to use.

We believe in giving authors and songwriters credit for the lessons, sermons, stories and songs they have written and if their work is copyrighted, we want to be sure we have their permission before we publish their work on the internet or on paper. However, we are providing words to songs, hymns and choruses which may prove to be a blessing to you and which we have heard sung and perhaps the words on a transparency for a period of several years without any credit line being shown. Whenever you see the notation, "Author Unknown," please do let us know at webmaster@followersofjesuschrist.org if you have any knowledge of who wrote the song and we will immediately attempt to contact that person for permission to continue to publish their work or to pay for the right to do so.
